Into the Woods
Summary
As the result of the curse of a once-beautiful witch, a baker and his wife are childless. Three days before the rise of a blue moon, they venture into the forest to find the ingredients that will reverse the spell and restore the witch's beauty: a cow as white as milk, hair as yellow as corn, a cape as red as blood, and a slipper as pure as gold. During their journey, they meet Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and Jack, each one on a quest to fulfill their own wish.
History
Into the Woods first opened on Broadway at the Martin Beck Theater in New York City on Nov. 5th, 1987. The production, with music and lyrics by Steven Sondheim and book by James Lapine, ran for 765 performances. On July 10th, 2022, an Encores! revival of the show opened on Broadway at the St. James Theater. Over the almost 4 decades since the show openned, it has had 2 national tours, a Disney movie, and 3 Broadway and West End revivals, with another on the way.
